Tennessee Credit Union 100-Year Celebration Toolkit

We are honored to present this communication toolkit in celebration of Advancing Communities for 100 Years. 100 years ago, the state of Tennessee signed its charter for the inception of credit unions. Now, we will spend the year amplifying the powerful stories of benefits that credit unions have had on the Volunteer tradition over these last 100 years. The 100-year anniversary is a great communication vehicle for your credit union to reinforce the benefits of financial cooperatives to your community. In short, it is an excellent opportunity to get your name out.

We have designed the customizable toolkit to help you easily incorporate the 100th-anniversary campaign into your existing marketing efforts. We invite you to use as much or as little, depending upon your credit union’s marketing strategy. These are merely ideas to help your credit union to celebrate the milestone.

If you have questions or have an idea for a marketing tactic you would like to see, please contact Sarah Waters, chief advocacy officer, [email protected] or Jessica McCosh, communications specialist, [email protected]. And as always, feel free to reach out to let us know how you are using the campaign. We’d love to hear from you!

Share your anniversary and member stories.

Video Capture Best Practices

Lights

  • Before filming, make sure you are facing toward the main source of light in the area. Opt for natural light if you can. If the main source of light is behind you, your face and body will be covered by shadows.
  • If you’re wearing glasses, be sure to check if your light source is reflecting off your lenses. The easiest thing to do is to remove your glasses. Not an option? Raise your light source to reduce or eliminate glare

Camera

  • If possible, when using a smartphone have somebody (with a steady hand) film you. This allows for a more natural camera angle. If filming by yourself, use a small phone tripod or securely prop your phone against a sturdy surface.
  • In general, horizontal filming is more commonly used and is easier to format into more uses than filming with your phone upright (vertically).
  • Avoid distracting objects, complex patterns, and intense lighting.
  • Aim to have your head in the top half of the frame, leaving room to add captions if needed. In general, you want to aim to have your camera sitting just above eye level to capture your best angle.

Action

  • Allow yourself ample time to set up and make sure everything is running smoothly.
  • If eye contact is desired, look directly into the tiny camera source light. If you don’t want to provide direct eye contact, focus slightly to the side of the camera source.
  • Writing out what you want to say beforehand can help prevent pauses while recording that can make you nervous or stressed.
  • Being concise with your words will not only help you keep to an ideal timeframe, but it will help your story be as clear and impactful as possible

Logo Usage Guidelines

Clear space: You can never have enough clear space. Use the height and/or width of the wordmark’s 100 as a guide on how much clearance to allow for around the logo.

Minimum sizes: The logo can be no smaller than .75 inches wide for print and 54 px wide for screens.

Use with your logo: We encourage you to use this logo alongside your own throughout the year. Be sure never to distort (shrink or enlarge) the logo and provide ample space between the two.

  • Do not place the logo over a photo background that does not provide enough contrast or causes the colors to vibrate.
  • Do not place the logo over a photo background that is too busy
  • Do not outline the logo
  • Do not remove elements from the logo

100 years ago in the great state of Tennessee, state-chartered credit unions were created and placed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Banks. Since then, credit unions have been Advancing Communities in the Volunteer State.

Tennessee credit unions advance the lives of their members through good and bad times. They work to help Tennesseans build their dreams, protect their homes, start AND expand local businesses, and bond our communities together. This year, we are privileged to celebrate 100 years of credit union-fostered prosperity in Tennessee.

Today, Tennessee has 132 credit unions with 2.4 million total credit union members generating a $2.9 billion economic impact. A lot has changed in the last 100 years, but credit unions have been there for their members every step of the way.

Our goal is the continued advancement and development of our Tennessee communities:

  1. Available quality broadband for all Tennesseans
  2. Attainable capital for small businesses in Tennessee Communities
  3. Access to high-quality financial services bringing health and wellness to all Tennesseans

Thank you for joining us in celebrating Advancing Communities for 100 Years and helping us build a better future for all Tennessee residents

Staff Talking Points

  3. The first credit union in Tennessee was chartered and operating on June 1, 1924, in Monteagle. The Summerfield Credit Union served a school district in a community of mountain farmers.
  4. The oldest surviving credit union in Tennessee is tnConnect Credit Union in Knoxville. They were created by a group of postal employees in 1924.
  5. The anniversary is a great opportunity to share your own credit union beginning and the benefits of credit union membership with members and prospective members.
